In a recent lesson, my student shared that she wanted to sing “Bury Me Beneath the Willow” at a camp she’ll be attending this summer. I was delighted to hear this, because up to that point, she had been very shy about singing during our lessons, and I never pressed the issue. She had, however, become very proficient at playing the arrangement in G major that can be found in my book.

When she opened her mouth to sing “Bury Me Beneath the Willow” in G, we both quickly realized that her voice wasn’t comfortable there, so I created an arrangement in D major, using aDADE tuning, so that she her banjo playing can meet her voice where it needs to be.
